Youth Educator/Program Assistant
Friends of the Mississippi River
Saint Paul, Minnesota
Part time: 25-35 hrs/week, March through mid-November
Friends of the Mississippi River (FMR) is a leading citizen organization working to protect and enhance the Mississippi River and its watershed in the Twin Cities Region. We strive to create positive changes that improve water quality, provide habitat for wildlife, create education and recreation opportunities, and inspire widespread commitment to this natural wonder that flows through our community.
Position Description
The Youth Educator/Program Assistant position is right for a flexible person who enjoys working with students, urban youth, community groups and volunteers, and is committed to protecting the Mississippi River and its watershed. The ideal candidate will have strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills and be able to work efficiently and independently. The Youth Educator/Program Assistant will work closely with FMR staff and be part of our Outreach and Stewardship Team.
Resposibilities
* Coordinate the St. Paul Storm Drain Stenciling & Education program - recruit, schedule, and lead volunteer groups and schools in educational programming on urban runoff pollution, storm drain stenciling outings, and litter clean-ups in the City of St. Paul.
* Coordinate the Cedar-Riverside Youth Stewardship Project – plan and lead educational outings, litter clean-ups and park restoration activities in Minneapolis.
* Coordinate pre-registration for public volunteer stewardship and restoration events, educational programs, tours and workshops.
* Coordinate volunteer registration and assist with paddler and event support for the Mississippi River Challenge (July 27-29, 2012).
* Coordinate/assist with the Stream Health Evaluation Project (SHEP) – organize logistics for volunteer training workshops, assist with scheduling, equipment and other logistics of field monitoring and lab sessions.
* Assist with and staff public volunteer stewardship and educational events.
* Manage and maintain program equipment and supplies.
* Maintain careful records of volunteer participation and project results.
Required Qualifications
* Communication Skills. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively juggle multiple phone, email and face-to-face communications with teachers, group leaders, volunteers and staff.
* Teaching and Education. Candidates should have teaching experience and be able to present information about water quality and urban runoff pollution to large and small groups in a clear and engaging way.
* Interpersonal Ability. The position involves working with a variety of volunteers, students, teachers, community members, vendors and organizational partners. Candidates should have experience leading groups and feel comfortable interacting with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds.
* Organizational Skills. Candidates should have strong organizational ability, be able to manage time and work efficiently. Candidates should possess good recordkeeping skills and will need to be comfortable working with databases and spreadsheets such as FilemakerPro and Excel.
* Reliable Transportation. Candidates must have reliable personal transportation and be willing to transport project equipment in their vehicle. Mileage and parking costs for work-related travel will be reimbursed.
* Flexibility. Position requires a flexible schedule that can accommodate irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
Additional Desired Qualifications
High level of motivation and demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision
Experience with event and/or volunteer coordination or support
Proficiency in database, spreadsheet and word processing software
Knowledge or background in natural resources, water quality or environmental education
Familiarity with the City of St. Paul
Hours and Compensation
This is a seasonal position with 25-35 hours per week on average
The compensation for this position is at a rate of $12.00-13.00 per hour
The position begins in early March and ends in mid November
The position requires flexibility and candidates must be available to conduct work during school hours three to four days a week, and several weekends throughout the season.

Education Abroad Program Manager

This position is a reposting of one of two positions that were open late last year. We filled one position, but are still looking to fill the second position. The position will be open for applications for approximately 7 days.
The Program Manager will manage a portfolio of short-term faculty led programs for graduate and undergraduate business students and advise students on education abroad programming. In addition, this position will be responsible for the marketing strategy for the education abroad team which includes both short-term and semester options. We are seeking candidates with experience in marketing and promotions, with social media initiatives(Facebook, Linked In, Twitter, YouTube, etc. in a professional capacity), and graphic design skills, ideally using Adobe Photoshop and InDesign. Interested candidates should include a promotional piece that highlights their design and marketing skills in their application materials.

What is Admission Possible/College Possible?
Admission Possible/College Possible is a nonprofit organization making college admission and success possible for low-income students through an intensive curriculum of coaching and support. We provide our students with (1) academic support through SAT/ACT test preparation; (2) guidance in the college application process; (3) assistance in the financial aid application process; (4) guidance in the college transition; and (5) support toward college degree completion. We currently serve nearly 8,700 low-income students annually in 29 high schools across the Twin Cities, Milwaukee and Omaha and on more than 150 college campuses nationwide. Since our founding in 2000, we have helped 98 percent of our students earn admission to college and nearly 80 percent of students are working on their degree or have graduated!
