Art Shanties Back on Medicine Lake in Plymouth, MN through February 5, 2012!
After a year-long hiatus, the Art Shanty Project (ASP) is back on Medicine Lake in Plymouth, Minnesota (west of downtown Minneapolis). According to their website, "Art Shanty Projects is a four-week exhibition that is part sculpture park, part artist residency and part social experiment, inspired by traditional ice fishing houses that dot the state's lakes in winter. It is an artist driven temporary community exploring the ways in which the relatively unregulated public space of the frozen lake can be used as a new and challenging artistic environment to expand notions of what art can be." HECUA's City Arts program participants will visit the shanties during the ASP's last weekend as part of their first field assignment, mostly to help at the Letterpress Shanty. Stop by and say hi! Visit the Art Shanty Projects' Web site for directions to Medicine Lake, information on this year's shanties, and even an hourly schedule for weekend events surrounding this uniquely Minnesotan experience.
