Grants

Awards 15 grants ranging from $1,000 -$4,500. The grant is to help with travel expenses and subsistence living expenses. These grants are awarded to undertake opportunities for practical experiences related to human rights.

 

Patrick Stewart Human Rights Scholarship    www.amnestyusa.org

Awards scholarships ranging from $600-$1800 to student activists for summer internships or individually planned human rights projects. Scholarships can be used toward travel expenses and materials. The project can be between 6 weeks-4months.

Features the American Immigration Law Foundation grant. Awards $500-$1000 to teachers of K-12 who are interested in teaching their students about the benefits of immigration to America.  Offers other links to international fellowship programs.

This grant is offered to people of any age with no previous experience necessary, who are committed and interested in community organizing in Minnesota. The apprenticeship is for 6 months and awards a monthly stipend of $1300 and basic health insurance.

Provides volunteer opportunities in Africa, Asia, Australia, the Caribbean, Europe, North America, South America and the South Pacific. Volunteers work on development projects to help communities become self-reliant. There are programs in the US, as well.

Volunteers teach for two years in 20 urban and rural areas across the U.S. Teachers receive a salaries and health benefits.  Salaries range from$20,000- $41, 000 depending on the areas cost of living. Student loan deferrals and education awards are also offered.

Places recent college graduates and young activists with grassroots organizations fighting for social and economic justice.  Justice Corps organizers receive both a salary generally between $21,000 and $25,000 and full benefits from their placement organization. The placement is for 1 year.

International Internships

Coordinates a working holiday program for U.S. college students to Ireland, France, Germany, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and Costa Rica.  The Participant fee ranges from $300 to $425. Participants receive work documentation and access to job-finding assistance in the destination country. The Canadian equivalent is the Student Work Abroad Program (SWAP) administered by the Canadian Federation of Students.

Jobs include retail sales, banking, computer technology, hotels and restaurants, agriculture, offices, etc. Most require knowledge of relevant language.
