The following information is intended to assist students and advisors in the distribution and approval of credits for participation in HECUA programs. Contact HECUA Admissions with any questions (651/646-8832, 800/554-1089, [email protected], www.hecua.org).
Each semester program provides 27 course credits. Credits and grades count towards graduation as general electives. However, they are not included in the GPA.
Students who wish to apply some or all credits towards a distribution requirement must undertake a petition and approval process with the appropriate department/academic office.
Students from all majors are encouraged to participate in HECUA programs.
The following majors are a good fit with the Latin American programs: Latin American Studies o Political Science o Sociology/Anthropology o Spanish Language Majors that have participated include:

CILA: (none) Students who wish to apply some or all credits towards a major requirement must undertake a petition and approval process with the appropriate department/academic office.
EECLA: New program; intended for students in social sciences, economics, environmental studies, and others
Discuss with your faculty advisor specific credit distribution in relation to your degree program and credits you need for the major, distribution requirements and/or electives.

Students planning to study off campus Fall semester in SAUS or CILA must submit an OCS petition to the Carleton Off-Campus Studies Office by the third Thursday of spring term (April 13, 2000) for permission to study off-campus fall semester 2000. Note: You must contact the Carleton office earlier than April 13 in order to meet the HECUA March 15 deadline.
Students planning to study off campus Spring semester in CASLA or CILA must submit an OCS petition to the Carleton Off-Campus Studies Office by the third Thursday of fall term (September 30, 1999) for permission to study off-campus spring semester 2000. (No additional registration is required at Carleton.)
Applications for SAUS and CILA are due in the HECUA office by March 15. Applications for EECLA are due in the HECUA office by November 1. Early application is as the program may fill before the deadline. Applications are reviewed as they are received. Late applications are considered on a space available basis.
