Student Eligibility

  • You must have completed your first year in college
  • You must be in good academic standing - 2.0 GPA or higher (any GPA lower than 2.5 will receive extra evaluation)
  • You must meet all requirements of the specific HECUA program
  • You must complete all home campus requirements for off-campus study

All students are welcome on HECUA programs. Selection is based on your completed application, past academic performance, recommendations, and the match between the program and your own interests, goals and expectations. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

HECUA Application Process

  1. Complete application, including applicable essay questions
  2. If applying to two programs for a year off-campus, submit one application and address both programs
    in answering essay questions.
  3. Arrange for an official college transcript to be sent to HECUA
  4. Request an academic reference using the reference form provided here. If possible ask the professor to return
the form to you so it can be submitted at the same time you mail your application and transcript.
Delays in receiving the reference will delay review of your application.
  5. Submit completed application to HECUA by deadline
  6. Issue a check or money order payable to HECUA for the application fee. The fee is non-refundable and must
    be received for your application to be reviewed. Late applications will be considered if space is available;
however, the $400 deposit must be included.

Application Fees

- Member schools = $50
- Non-member schools =$75
- After acceptance all students will be sent a letter requesting a $400 non-refundable deposit.*

*Applications submitted after the deadline must include the $400 deposit.

Application Deadlines

All students and study abroad advisors should note that HECUA is extending the application deadline for our spring 2007 "Divided States of Europe: Globalization and Inequalities in the New Europe" to December 1st, 2006.

HECUA Transcripts

Member-college students: An official HECUA grade report is sent directly to your college registrar. The registrar transfers your grades onto your official transcript per your prior arrangements with the institution.

Non-member-college students: HECUA registers all non-member students through Hamline University, which serves as the host college for registration purposes only. HECUA submits an official grade report directly to the Hamline Registrar's office where it is transferred onto an official Hamline University transcript. In order for these credits and grades to be transferred to your home institution, you must submit a written and signed request to the Hamline Registrar for a copy of your official transcript to be sent to your home college registrar. Send to Office of the Registrar, College of Liberal Arts, Hamline University, 1536 Hewitt Ave., St. Paul, MN 55104-1284. Enclose $5.00 to cover the fee for each official transcript request, payable to Hamline University. In your written request, be sure to indicate the HECUA program and term in which you participated, your social security number (for quick and accurate computer access to your records), the number of transcripts requested ($5.00 for each), and the address to which transcripts should be sent. These instructions will be sent to you again at the end of the program.

Transcripts will be withheld by HECUA for students that have an outstanding bill (tuition, airfare, readings, etc). The transcript will not be released until the bill has been paid in full or a payment plan has been arranged.

General HECUA Policies
Click here to access the HECUA Student Handbook, distributed prior to the 1st day of your program. This handbook outlines principles, policies, guidelines and other important information for all students participating in HECUA off-campus study programs. Students are required to read through this handbook thoroughly prior to the start of your program, and students are to confirm that they have read and understand this handbook by signing the Participation Agreement given to them in the first packet of orientation materials.
