HECUA Housing in the Twin Cities
Through a partnership with Augsburg College, a founding institution of HECUA, we are able to offer housing to students participating in Twin Cities programs. We are proud of this partnership and the opportunity it gives HECUA students to live in a vibrant, active Minneapolis neighborhood. HECUA pays a substantial subsidy so that this housing opportunity remains very affordable.
“The HECUA [housing] experience is going really well! I am enjoying my roommates who are participating in other HECUA programs, and I have loved volunteering with the children in the tutoring program I participate in on the weekends. It’s great to be in such a warm community while living in the Twin Cities for the first time.” --Alicia, University of Minnesota-Morris, fall 2012 participant in Environmental Sustainability
Eligibility
HECUA housing is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Students are eligible for a spot in housing once they've been accepted to a HECUA Twin Cities program and confirmed their enrollment with a signed Participation Agreement and guaranteed deposit. The fee for living in the housing for the duration of the semester (4 months) is $1,400.
Details
- Students are housed in Anderson Residence Hall on the Augsburg campus. The residence hall is within easy reach of several Metro Transit bus lines as well as the Hiawatha Light Rail line.
- Students will be placed in double rooms and assigned a roommate. We will do our best to have HECUA students room together. If a single room is necessary for health or other reasons, the student should speak with HECUA’s Student Services Associate ([email protected]) in advance of the semester. If the student is eligible for an accommodation to a single room, the price will remain the same as a double; if a student wishes to have a single room but does not qualify for an accommodation, they may purchase one (according to availability) by paying an additional $526.
- If a student wishes to have a car while living in HECUA housing, they must file a request with HECUA ([email protected]). Spaces permitting, a permit can be purchased from the Augsburg Department of Public Safety (DPS). If space is unavailable, it may be possible to obtain a city permit for street parking. Students are responsible for the cost of parking permits.
How to Apply
Students participating to a Twin Cities-based HECUA program should note on the application form that they will need housing. The sooner we receive your enrollment items (including the Participation Agreement form and program deposit), the more likely you'll have a spot in housing. If you have questions related to housing, please contact Program Representatives Lauren White ([email protected]) and Kari Pederson Behrends ([email protected]).
