Sustainable Development, Environment and Culture in Bangladesh
Spring Semester
Students will select internship settings from a range of organizations in Bangladesh (examples provided below). Keep in mind that the below internships are not available every year, but provide an example. Many of these organizations have local context, while others will integrate the local with the global focus. The following provides information on internships that have been available in the past two years of the program. Sites will change in response to the needs of organizations locally and the specific interests of students coming on the program where possible.

Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA)
BELA’s mission is to promote environmental justice and contribute to the development of a sound environmental jurisdiction
Society for Environment and Human Development (SEHD)
SEHD is a Bangladeshi non-profit organization engaged in action-oriented research, investigative reporting, documentation, training and advocacy on issues concerning environment, human rights and indigenous peoples.
BRAC - Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee
BRAC is a large and multifaceted development organization with the twin objectives of alleviation of poverty and empowerment of the poor
Grameen Bank: Microcredit, Village development
The Grameen Bank (GB) has reversed conventional banking practice by removing the need for collateral and creating a banking system based on mutual trust, accountability, participation and creativity. At GB, credit is a cost effective weapon to fight poverty and it serves as a catalyst in the over all development of socio-economic conditions.
Students may also pursue internships at urban and rural schools, health clinics, development agencies, and arts or handicraft cooperatives among other options.
