HECUA has two types of internship programs:
Semester internships embedded in academic,
undergraduate programs
Summer internships awarded to nonprofits in
Minnesota, North Dakota and northwest Wisconsin
A
HECUAInternship :
*Is a learning laboratory allowing for the
integration of theory and practice
*Involves a meaningful and challenging work
project that develops and defines professional
skills
*Has a primary supervisor that provides an
orientation and on-going, structured supervision
*Includes formal and informal reflection including
a learning agreement, evaluations and portfolio
*Is a catalyst for students to discover their
vocation
*Nurtures lifelong practice of turning experience
into learning
Responsibilities
of Internship Sites and Supervisors:
*Creation of meaningful work for intern to
develop new skills and knowledge and to meet
needs of organization (Maximum of 20% of interns
responsibilities doing administrative work
e.g. filing, data entry)
*Orientation to the work site & duties
*Completion of learning tools with intern
(Learning Agreement, Mid-term and Final Evaluations).
Evaluation of students work performance.
*On-going supervision and mentoring including
a weekly meeting
*Communication
with HECUA
HECUA Seeks Internship Sites Which:
*Create substantial work projects for students
*Invest the time to mentor students in connecting
classroom work to meaningful work in the community
*Work in partnership with HECUA to provide
quality internship programs for organizations
and students
*Mentor students in their career and vocational
questions
