What:
The Bangladesh spring semester program
offers either an internship or field experience.
|
Hands-On
Experience:
Field experiences and internships provide
an opportunity to see social change in
progress. The first half of the term (centered
in Dhaka) will focus on the culture and
history of the region as you gain various
perspectives on sustainable development
in a developing country. During the remaining
weeks, students will have their choice
of an internship or field study with twice
monthly gatherings for reflection on the
field experience/internship. Students
will have the option to do field study
or internships in Dhaka or in rural villages

Like
No Other Place on Earth
Bordering India, Bangladesh is a young,
predominantly Muslim nation state. Bangladesh
offers a chance to witness the moderate
practice of Islam and understand how poverty
can offer an opportunity for dialogue,
not violence. Ranked among the worlds
poorest countries, Bangladesh has been
a key site for implementing and testing
various models of development by international
agencies and Non-Governmental Organizations.
Its capital is the emerging mega-city
of Dhaka with more than 10 million residents.

NEW
IN 2006! SEMESTER IN BANGLADESH
|
|
A
NEW LENS ON URBAN/RURAL DEVELOPMENT
Spend a semester learning about approaches
to development agencies and the aspirations
of Bangladeshis. Through lectures, discussions
and group field study, you will explore
the policies, practices and competing ideologies
of socioeconomic development in rural and
urban Bangladesh. While in Dhaka you will
meet with leaders of government and development
agencies. You also will have a chance to
learn about the moderate practice of Islam.
Lectures and readings are in English, and
interpreters help translate Bangla in the
field. Instruction in basic Bangla phrases
is offered on the program.
