The
City of Saint Paul
The
Education Director is in charge of Mayor Kelly`s
Capital City Education Initiative. The Director
is an at-will member of the Mayor`s staff and
reports directly to the Deputy Mayor. The position
is currently funded for one year by a grant
from the Saint Paul Companies, Inc. Foundation.
Continued employment beyond one year is dependent
on acquiring additional funding. Saint Paul
Mayor Randy Kelly launched the Capital City
Education Initiative with the goal of putting
the human and financial resources of Saint Paul`s
citizens and businesses to work on behalf of
Saint Paul`s public, charter and private schools.

ABOUT MINNESOTA ADVOCATES: Minnesota Advocates
for Human Rights is the largest Midwest-based,
volunteer-driven non-profit organization dedicated
to the promotion and protection of internationally
recognized human rights. Minnesota Advocates
documents human rights abuses, provides direct
legal representation, and educates on human
rights issues, particularly pertaining to women,
children, and immigrants and refugees.
ABOUT EDUCATION PROGRAM: Minnesota Advocates'
commitment to school-based human rights education
rests on our decade of experience working with
teachers, community volunteers, and students
throughout the Midwest. We promote and develop
the practice of human rights education in primary
and secondary learning environments through
recruitment, training, direction and support
of teachers, adult volunteers and emerging student
activists. We also create, pilot, and disseminate
curricular resources for use in human rights
education throughout the U.S. that are based
on the field-based human rights work we do locally,
regionally and internationally.
GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Education
Program Associate is responsible for helping
to maintain and grow our K-12 school partnerships,
supervising volunteers in developing human rights
education materials, and coordinating trainings,
workshops, and other events for educators, students,
business professionals, and the general community.

Graphic Design Intern
Intermedia
Arts
Intermedia Arts is looking for someone who
would like to build their portfolio, gain print
production experience, and be introduced to
the cultural design sector. Working with Intermedia
Arts' Graphic Designer and the Communications
Team, the Graphic Design Intern will produce
print materials for assigned visual exhibitions,
performances, events, and screenings.
Responsibilities include the design�from concept
to print�of assigned projects. Applicants should
possess exceptional typography skills; Macintosh
proficiency; experience with Quark, PhotoShop,
and Illustrator; time-management skills; and
internal drive.
The internship requires 20 hours a week for
12 weeks, starting September 15, 2003. There
is no financial compensation; however, this
internship may apply toward college credits
if prearranged with an educational institution.

Greater Twin Cities United Way is interested
in reaching out to students and alumni through
HECUA to find those who would be interested
in participating in our Program Review process
beginning this November. We are in need of dedicated,
community oriented individuals to work to distribute
United Way funds to quality nonprofit programs.
Volunteers will spend up to 40 hours over 3
months with a team of peers to review program
proposals from community agencies that work
to improve the lives of children and youth in
the Twin Cities region. Daytime availability
preferred but not required.
This is a fabulous opportunity for students
and alumni to gain experience in community decision-making
and enhance analytical skills. Currently we
are working to improve our inclusion of young
adults and people of color to improve the results
of our process.
