Hamline University was a founding member of HECUA in 1971 and has been a leader throughout the consortium’s history, maintaining steady enrollments in programs, active participation on the board of directors, and faculty involvement in committees and collaborative initiatives. HECUA offices were located on the Hamline campus from 1985-2001, and Hamline has been integral to the administrative work of the consortium by providing transcripts for program participants matriculating at non-consortium schools.

Application Process

Students must seek approval from Hamline before they can apply for a HECUA program. There is a year-out approval process for students wishing to apply for a semester-long program. The approval process is competitive. To be eligible to apply, students must have a 3.0 GPA, have studied at Hamline a year prior to their sojourn, and plan to study in their major or minor field.

The approval process begins with an individual advising appointment with Christine Diaz-Higgins, Off-Campus Study Advisor, and culminates with the completion of an off-campus study application, which can be obtained in the off-campus study office. After a student has been approved by Hamline to study off-campus, they can complete the HECUA application and Hamline will forward the completed application to the HECUA office for review.
