Viterbo University is a Catholic liberal arts institution, founded by the Franciscan Sisters, with the mission to prepare students for leadership and service. It does that by providing a student-centered and values-based community whereby each student learns the value of human dignity and respect for others and for the world. Viterbo joined HECUA in 1991, a time in which the University was expanding and deepening its commitment to global education and experiential teaching and learning. Since then, HECUA has supported Viterbo's efforts to engage its students in social change issues in their communities and in the world.

Special services HECUA provides to the campus:
•HECUA co-designed and conducted a custom faculty development program in Ecuador as part of Viterbo’s effort to establish a Latin American Studies department. The program was titled Political, Social & Economic Dynamics in Ecuador: A Model for Interdisciplinary Programming in Latin American Studies.
•Keith Knutson, history professor, visited HECUA’s Norway program site to explore the possibility of offering a Viterbo course that would include an embedded field experience at this site with assistance from HECUA.
•Beth Moore, then Director of Office of Global Education, participated in a HECUA Roundtable on effective teaching and learning for community-academic engagement. Program directors and member faculty came together for two days of intensive discussion in Saint Paul and returned to their campuses with new skills in the practice and theory of community engagement.
•HECUA has provided a custom-designed workshop for Viterbo faculty members from a variety of disciplines. Dr. Phil Sandro, HECUA Senior Program Director led the four-day workshop, entitled Principles and Practice of Service-Learning in the Curriculum. The project combined classroom and field experiences and led to concrete planning of course curriculum by Viterbo faculty.
