Although
I wasnt in Ecuador, Norway, or Northern
Ireland, my HECUA experience still had
great impact on my life. My internship
was definitely the most rewarding and
memorable part of MUST. I interned at
the Minnesota Alliance for Progressive
Action (MAPA), and I learned, experienced,
observed, and participated in so much.
I came out with more direction and insight
into my life and future goals than I could
have ever imagined. At MAPA I worked quite
closely with the lobbyists. We worked
on the budget balancing at the Legislature,
and worked very diligently on FACE, the
campaign finance reform bill. I had only
been to the state capitol once before
MAPA, and I now feel like the House and
conference rooms are old hat. This internship
just brought to light all of the amazing
people working in politics, working from
the inside to author bills, voting, and
listening to their constituents, but also
the lobbyists, concerned citizens, and
also the money involved with it all. It
showed me how my possibilities are limitless
to get a job doing and working with something
I love so much. This internship got me
an internship this past summer with the
Coalition for the Homeless and has already
gotten me one for next semester. The people
Ive met and the connections Ive
made are potentially life-long and presently
so beneficial. I was introduced to another
whole realm of this state, and society
in general, that I could never have found
on my own.
