HECUA and colleagues in New Zealand have developed an interdisciplinary program devoted to the interconnections of society and the environment in New Zealand, to be first offered in the fall semester 2012, contingent on approval by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority. The program will examine how social and environmental factors are shaping political and ecological dimensions of identity and culture, and how New Zealanders from many different backgrounds are envisioning and creating a shared future in Aotearoa New Zealand, the "Land of the Long White Cloud."

This program investigates the dramatic changes of Northern Europe by critically analyzing the development of the Norwegian welfare state through a wide range of topics such as globalization theories, nation-building and national identity, governance and political party systems, and European integration, among others.

The program explores theoretical approaches to understanding conflict and its transformation as well as the peace processes underway in Northern Ireland to create a sustainable democracy.

In the Community Internships in Latin America program based in Quito, Ecuador students compare and contrast models of community participation, organization, development, and social change.
